World Connections Club hosts game night

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, World Connections Club (WCC) held its monthly meeting in the Annex Cafeteria. It began as an average meeting, which announcements about upcoming events and club t-shirt ordering. From there, the meeting turned into a game night.

To allow club members to get to know each other better, the officers decided to divide members into groups and teach them games from around the world. The featured countries were Russia, France, Portugal, South Africa and South Korea. Highlights included candy from the French game, quacking as part of the Russian game, and a modified version of tag from South Korea. The groups learned basic phrases in the language native to each country, as well.

The event was intended to break the ice between members by allowing them to explore cultural aspects together. It also provided an opportunity to learn about the world through aspects other than food, which is what WCC most commonly introduces its members to. As a whole, the attendees enjoyed the game night.

“I never really thought about traditional board games—they just usually aren’t what comes to mind,” senior Mary Anne Liddy said. “I liked to learn about everyday things from different countries.”
