Ikea in Fishers

As of Nov. 10, Ikea announced that they would be building a branch here in Fishers. Construction will commence in spring of 2016, on a plot of land near I-69 and East 116th street, and it is projected to be finished in the fall of 2017. Multiple new places of business have been popping up all throughout Fishers, and Hamilton County as a whole. With new buildings in the downtown Fishers area, to the Cabela’s in Hamilton Town Center, the building of Ikea will be a new leaf in the local economy.

Many students at HSE have developed their own opinions on the new Ikea.

“I’m so excited about Ikea because I love the furniture,” junior Danielle Barry said. “It’s really great quality and I won’t have to drive the two hours to get what I want.”

Some like the idea of a new Ikea for reasons other than just the furniture.

“The food that they have is awesome,” sophomore Benjamin Seifferlein said. “The episode of The Office where they go to the Ikea is a classic.”

While many see it as a positive, some have opposing points of view.

“Ikea sounds like a good idea at first, until we see the traffic that comes with it,” sophomore Miles Zander said. “It seems like a good way for Fishers to expand, but I feel there is nothing in Ikea I can’t find anywhere else.”

While there is some debate over the effects of the new Ikea, it will be interesting to see the progress as well as the changes it will make to the area.
