Conquering a Colossal Challenge

Emma Chase’s Rise to High School Softball

As a freshman, junior Emma Chase stepped up to home plate for the first time as a high school softball player. Wide-eyed, an entire field in front of her, and focused on the pitcher she knew she was getting her chance.

Chase moved to Indiana in sixth grade and had difficulty finding good travel softball opportunities due to being relatively unknown by coaches and players. She moved around to different organizations to find an opportunity to play for a high level team.

“I stayed patient through the whole process,” Chase said. “Through all the work and the training that I did in the offseason and during the season I knew it would pay off when I finally got to high school.”

Chase certainly hopes she can capitalize on her opportunities the next two years after everything she has faced getting to this point.

“Emma has been an amazing teammate,” junior Lillian Leiner said. “She is always so supportive and energetic which impacts the entire team. She continually works as hard as she can to achieve success.”

It is clear that Emma is an asset to any team she is a part of. However, her ability to bring fun to the team while still staying focused and getting better is something that is impressive.

“After all the years of not getting the best opportunities and having to work really hard, it would just be amazing to play varsity this year,” Chase said.

It is clear that while Emma has faced a challenge and overcome it, she has put it behind her and is now focused on the present and being the best teammate and player she can be. Story by Sam Smith.
