With the sound of weights clanging and the smell of sweat in the air, multi-sport athlete junior Evan Lantz is getting his morning lift in.  Lantz just finished football season as he looks forward to track season.  An All-conference and All-state football player and a varsity track shot-put thrower, Lantz knows the importance of his offseason and keeping his grades right by not procrastinating.   

“When I am in study hall I try to get all of my homework done,” Lantz said “If I do have homework to do after school it gets done right after practice because I do not like to procrastinate.”  

Lantz puts so much in the classroom but also puts a lot in during the offseason in the weight room.  When talking about his offseason between sports Lantz said that it is a lot of lifting. He went on to say that he lifts up to three times a day multiple days of the week. If he’s not working out three times he is at least working out twice.

“Going through football Evan leads by example”, said Nick Heltzel a long time teammate and friend. “His offseason and schedule goes to show the work he puts in and the person he is.” 

One thing that sets Lantz as an athlete apart from others is that his dad is one of his coaches. Jeff Lantz, Evans father is the head coach of the freshman football team and is also on the sidelines on Friday night.  “I don’t think having my dad on the sideline adds a lot of pressure”, Lantz said.  “I just go out there and play every Friday it is just fun for me, having him there makes me want to play better.”  

For Lantz a busy schedule and his school work hasn’t stopped him from success on the field or on the track. The work that he puts in, in the weight room during his offseason and in the classroom is the main reason for his successes.  By: Tyler Groves
