The girls track team won the State Champion for the first time in Royal history. Coming into their 2019 season, they had a huge target on their backs. Losing some of their top seniors last year after winning state, some of the athletes had to step up or continuing doing what they always do in order to win. Last tuesday the girls took home the W at the conference championship. Along with individual runners Lulu Black and Regan Wans winning in their events. The girls 4×100 team also took first place with runners Olivia Burgess, Tierra Sydnor, Mya Hammons and Alyssa Barker on the team. Lastly, the 4×400 team also took first place in their event with Olivia Burgess, Lauren Johnson, Annice McFarland, and Regan Wans.

The girls are hopeful in going to state this year but don’t want to jinx their season and say that they will place at state yet. Some incoming freshman having shown up and given their all in order to place points for their team. The season is still young and the tournament meets are beginning to roll in as the royals prepare to fight their way to state. Wans came into the season becoming a sprinter after she previously was a cross country runner in the fall. Her contributions to the team has been outstanding coming in a freshman, bringing everyone together from long distance, to short distance and even to the throws and jumps, everyone is hugging and smiling after the big win at conference. Their next race is at Carmel on Tuesday the following week, as their County race.
