From Adversity to Royalty
When Madison Hoyda moved here her freshman year, soccer was her life. She had been playing for the majority of her life, and when she moved to Indiana, she continued to play, but only for a club team, not the school. Right before her junior season, Madison decided she wanted to play for the school now too. However, right before tryouts, Madison tore her ACL and was sidelined for a while.
“That set me back 5 months and I had to go to physical therapy 3 times a week,” Hoyda said.
The injury had a huge affect on Madison, as not only was she not able to play for the school team that year, she had to miss out on a lot of general training and her club season too.
“I missed out on a lot of opportunities,” Hoyda said. “I really wish I could’ve played for the school.”
This year, Madison is healthy and once again decided to tryout for the school team. After making varsity, she’s already had a huge impact with her skills on the field and her great personality off of it.
Kaitlynne Wallace, Madison’s teammate said, “Madison Hoyda brings a lot of laughter to our team and she’s so fun to be around.”
Her teammates know the struggles she’s been through, so they are very impressed with her persistence and positivity.
“Hoyda is so hardworking when she comes back from her injuries.” Wallace said. She never lets them define her and she always comes back stronger than she was before.
Madison has shown big improvements throughout the season and wants to continue to get better.
“I feel like I’ve been growing as a player.” Hoyda said.
Despite the setback, Madison is excited for the rest of the season and is looking forward to helping her team compete for a state title. Story by AJ Brisben.
