The Climb of Olivia Tabak and her Soccer Career

By: Paige Cope

As halftime comes to a close, number 0 Olivia Tabak comes in to play goalie for the Hamilton Southeastern High School Girls JV soccer team. She runs out in her black jersey with the bright royal blue and white number 0 on it as her team and the crowd are screaming and chanting ready for the second half to start. From the start of the half, she was standing in a strong ready position knowing that at any moment, she could have to stop the ball from going into the net and letting the other team score.

Olivia Tabak is a current HSE student who has been playing soccer for 11-12 years. She began her soccer career here at HSE on the freshman team as the starting goalie. Olivia has a strong passion for soccer that will not stop being shown through her aggressiveness through the game whether she is on the bench or on the field.

“I started playing when I was around 4 or 5 years old. My aunt was still in high school when I was starting to play, and I always loved hearing about her and watching her play. I still love hearing about it.” Tabak said, “I have become more aggressive and more vocal on the field over the 11 years I have played. As you get older and have more experience, the better results you get and the more you make higher teams.”

Olivia has always had passion for the game of soccer and that in continuously proven, not only by her, but her mother and her coaches. Head Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Greg Davidson says, “She literally has grown like two inches,” Davidson said, “but her shot stopping ability and her technical ability stopping it with her hands has improved.” Not only has Coach Davidson seen Olivia’s improvement and skill change, her mother Alexa Tabak has noticed it more than ever. “Olivia has shown amazing growth on and off the field,” Tabak said, “she’s learned what it means to be dedicated and how to win and lose.”

Olivia has always been a strong athlete, but she is now more than ever, more aggressive, more confident in her abilities, and more vocal on the field with her team. Tabak has and always will have a passion and fire for soccer that will never go away.
