Battling Back from Injury

Senior Samuel Finefrock collapsed on the turf and felt a sharp pain shoot through his left knee. The miss-timed step would cost him the rest of the season and perhaps a state championship. After winning the state championship in 2018 the lacrosse team was looking for another strong lacrosse season last year. Throughout the 2019 season, the lacrosse team was consistently ranked in the top three in the state and prepared to defend their title. On May 22, near the end of the season HSE middie Samuel Finefrock tore his ACL in a game against Heritage Christian.

When asked how he got injured, Finefrock said. “I picked up the ball and tried to cut to the right and my leg gave out on me,”

Finefrock was taken to the hospital where he was told that he needed surgery. This injury would force Samuel to miss the remainder of the season and the state tournament. Fellow teammate, Cannon Elsbury, said, “Even when injured, Sam stayed with the team and kept working to get back from his injury quicker.” After the season ended, the workouts and practices stopped, but Finefrock had to keep working to get back to playing.

“To get back to full strength I went to physical therapy three times a week for a month and then once a week once my leg got stronger,” Finefrock said.

Finefrock was forced to do a countless number of workouts at physical therapy and home in order to get back to playing. Now Finefrock is cleared and ready for his senior season. As the lacrosse team starts their preseason workouts, Finefrock is back in the mix and ready to go. Story by David DeSplinter
