One thing is for sure, SSN is not as easy as it seems to the naked eye. Unlike other schools, SSN is a legitimate class. It isn’t a club or anything of that sort.  Hours and sometimes days of preparation go into the class, especially for the students, because it is a student-based publication. Whether it is in class time, or time at home, time is essential to daily operation.

Specifically, the live broadcast department could be considered the department that puts the most time into the class outside of school, considering the live broadcasts themselves are of the high school sporting events. In preparation for these broadcasts, usually the broadcast group meets, and decides who is available for that specific sporting event. Depending on the sport, it can range from a 3-5-person job. Those include announcers, a producer, cameraman, reviewer, and/or stats. After the team has been assembled and everyone has their job, usually the 2 announcers will prep for the game. They would essentially make a script for the beginning of the game and create notes for each of the teams playing at the sporting event. The producer is in charge of making the YouTube link for the broadcast, and updating the scoreboard every time someone scores, and things of that nature. The cameraman is well, the cameraman for the broadcast. A reviewer is something recently added to the list of jobs, and whoever has this role will watch the broadcast, and give feedback. During the game, the stats person will collect stats for an individual player so the announcers can use that to update to audience on the game itself.  Once everyone is prepared for their role, the team usually meets at the event location, and set up the equipment about an hour or so before game time. Now this might like a seem quite easy and simple task, but communication is key.

Every single person who has a role in the broadcast is essential to the broadcast itself, and no one person’s job is more significant than the other. If one person fails to execute their role, there is usually one main reason. The preparation he or she put in before the broadcast. Obviously, no error can be predicted or expected, but there is always a solution or a plan B. Once again, time is everything, and so is preparation, that is why at SSN, we put the best product forward that we can for the viewer.
