A Sneaky Good NBA team who might have just what it takes to win a ring this year

In the history of the National Basketball Association we have seen many underdog stories. Many teams that were expected to not even make the playoffs shock the world and make a deep playoff run, We have seen many underdogs take down superteams stacked with stars left and right. That’s the beauty of NBA basketball, any team can win on any given night regardless of how much talent either team has. Take the 1999 New York Knicks for example, they weren’t expected to do really anything, and even thought about firing their head coach Jeff Van Gundy just to try anything out to win more games. They stuck with Van Gundy and squeaked into the playoffs as the 8 seed, expectations still low. They were lead by an injured Patrick Ewing and were playing the 1 seeded Miami heat and the dynamic duo of Tim Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning, both very good players. An 8 seed had only beat a 1 seed once in NBA before this. The Knicks ended up getting the win 78-77 hitting a dagger shot at the end to send the Miami Heat home. After a couple more series the Knicks were in the NBA finals against the San Antonio Spurs. They ended up losing the series 4-1 and it wasn’t ever really super close but this narrative goes to show that any team can win on any given night and that is why the NBA is truly so special. Now let’s look at a huge underdog team this NBA season who might have a shot at a ring. The Golden State Warriors. Now the Warriors are the 8 seed in the west, It doesn’t look great on paper but you have to keep in mind that the Warriors have the best point guard in the NBA at the helm, Steph Curry. After breaking his hand, there was questions. Could Curry get back to playing at an MVP level? How would this injury affect his shooting? Curry has certainly proven the doubters wrong this season averaging 30 points per game, the same amount he averaged in his unanimous MVP season in the 2015-16 season also leading the Warriors to 3 rings. With Klay Thompson injured and Kevin Durant shipped off to Brooklyn it will be no easy task but Curry is not alone, he has a supporting cast of players like Kelly Oubre, James Wiseman, and Andrew Wiggins. All this and the Warriors are only 6.5 games back from the #1 seed Jazz which isn’t too much at all to overcome. When Stephen Curry is hot absolutely no defender in the NBA can stop him, take for example his 62 point game agains the Blazers. Curry has everything he needs to lead a team to another championship, it is no easy task in the West but can Curry and the Warriors make another story like the Knicks, maybe taking down a superteam like the Lakers. Only time will tell.
