The new Marvel series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” aired its first episode on March 19, 2021 and ended on April 23, 2021 and it was absolutely amazing. The 6 episodes included plot twists and cliffhangers that led to create a cinematic masterpiece.

The show is basically about Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), trying to rescue the world from the Flag Smashers, a group of newly made super soldiers who want to return the world to the way it was before the Blip led by Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman) while also battling John Walker (Wyatt Russell) for Captain America’s shield. After Sam gave the shield to the Captain America exhibit, Walker was named the new Captain America and after a tragic incident where his partner was killed leading him to accuse and kill an innocent man, his title of Captain America was revoked. In the finale, Sam has the shield back, gets a new suit from the Wakandan’s, is labeled Captain America and gets to keep his wings which I thought was awesome.

Along the ride, Sam and Bucky get the help of Barron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) who we last saw in “Captain America: Civil War,” as the main villain. Until the last couple episodes I was very confused as to why Zemo was there, but we later find out that he was part of Bucky’s plan to make amends with everyone he hurt as the Winter Soldier. Bucky later hands Zemo off to the Dora Milaje AKA Wakanda warriors who may have wanted him as revenge for killing T’Chaka or something deeper that we don’t quite know about yet.

In the 5th episode, we learn about Isaiah Bradley, who if you’ve read the comics is known as technically the first Captain America. His character is important to the legacy of Captain America and its history. We learn from him about the racial aspects in the show, and I thought that it was a very emotional and touching addition to the plot. I’ll let you watch the series to find out his background and more details about him.

We know that there will either need to be a season two or another film about these two because of the cliffhangers in the final episode. Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) who was the niece of Peggy Carter and appeared in previous Marvel movies as a good person is now bad and known as the Power Broker and is involved in some pretty bad things. In the end credits, we hear her on the phone with someone and is planning something. We also are introduced to a new character named Contessa Valentine Allegra de Fontaine and we don’t really know anything about her, but she seems pretty important. Bucky tells Sam “Nice job, Cap,” which was a big turning point in their relationship. Bucky was best friends with Steve, and I really think that Bucky calling Sam “Cap,” represents a strong and growing friendship between the two. In addition to that, the end credits said, “Captain America and the Winter Soldier,” which was also big in inferring there to be more to come.

Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and the rest of the cast portrayed their roles perfectly and I think that I speak for everyone when I say that I would love and hope to see them together again in the future.
