SSN Coach Profile: Brian Akialis, Boys Track

Akialis has taught at HSE for 5 years. Akialis began as an assistant on the track coaching staff, then was promoted to Head Coach in the Spring of 2019. Akialis also is the Varsity Football defensive assistant in the Fall.

 

He joined the building as a Social Studies teacher in the Fall of 2016.

 

Coaching Achievements

 

In 2019, Akialis had a very successful first season as Head Coach of the Royals. Taking his team all the way to the State Meet, Akialis led the Royals to an eventual fourth place finish. 

 

Akialis and the Royals placed third in sectionals as well as 4th in regionals, en route to the fourth place in the state meet. 

 

In his debut season as Head Coach, Akialis led the 2019 Track squad, which set numerous school records. Under Akialis, the 60 M (indoor), 100 M, 200 M, and the 4×100 records have all been surpassed. 

 

As an assistant in 2018, Akialis was a part of a sectional championship as the Royals edged out the Carmel Greyhounds by a slim 2 points. 

 

Personal Life

 

Prior to joining the Hamilton Southeastern staff in 2016, Akialis played College Football at Butler from 2011-2015. 

 

Akialis attended Buffalo Grove High School in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, a suburb northwest of Chicago. 

 

Akialis played on all three sides of the ball in high school as a Wide Receiver, Linebacker, and took on all kicking duties. He also ran Track at Buffalo Grove. 

 

Akialis was a team captain in Football and Track. He also took home All-Conference honors in Track as well as being named Buffalo Grove’s Male Athlete of the year.
