SSN: Giving Back

With the beginning of basketball seasons, both the Lady Royals and Men’s Basketball team are participating in different events throughout the season to give back to the community.  

Below is a list of events that the team’s have coming up.  

Boys Basketball

“I think it’s important for us to give back and make sure our players have the perspective to be thankful and appreciative of what we have.” says boys coach, John Ashworth. “We tell our players that being a great teammate is about helping someone else and that translates to life.” (Hannah Elkins)
  • During the team’s first scrimmage last Saturday, the team held a canned food drive and donated all items to food banks and local charities for Thanksgiving. 
  • The team will be hosting a Teacher Appreciation Night during their home game against Zionsville, Friday, January 21.  Giving the players to recognize teachers who have had an impact on their lives.  

The boys will have first game of the season against Brebeuf Jesuit this Wednesday, November 24th. The game will be away, and tipoff will begin at 7:30.  

Girls Basketball 

  • Pink game, to support Breast Cancer, will be held Thursday, January 6th against Warren Central. The game will be held at home, starting at 7:30 
  • The team will also be participating in another pink game when they face the home team Westfield, Friday January 14th, starting at 6:00.  
  • On February 11th the team will be volunteering at the Champions Together Basketball Clinic. An event hosted by Champions Together, a Unified, Special Olympics Organization.  
  • The team is also planning a service project to help the homeless or events similar.

The team’s next game is Tuesday, November 23rd at Brownsburg High School. Tipoff will begin at 7:30.
