The Last Lap

With the end of the school year approaching quickly and sports ending soon, the athletes are feeling many emotions. The ending of high school sports can be a bittersweet experience, mixed with joy and sadness. For many seniors its their last opportunity to compete and represent their school.  For Senior Molly Walker, it was her last time running for Hamilton Southeastern High School. Walker had ran track for the last five years and she states,”I am sad that it’s all coming to an end but so grateful for Hamilton Southeastern track.” A sport that has became an everyday routine for Walker is coming to a quick halt, leaving her with an empty feeling without the track environment, “It definitely has felt different. Doing everything for the last time.” she states.

Walker didn’t let the pressure of the last season affect her. Her biggest accomplishment this season was beating her 1600 time by 10 seconds from the previous year. Keeping her own expectations high throughout her high school career. Walkers main events are the 800, 4 x 800, 1600 and 4 x 400.  “My favorite part about track is the competition and getting to be with your best friends”, Walker quotes. The seniors, including Walker, have felt more pressure as the season came to an end, a want to do great for the last season. This mindset only seemed to push Walker further.

With the 2023 season coming to end, Walker completed her last lap of HSE track. Leaving behind a legacy, many memories, and numerous miles ran on the track.
