Child development classes interact with kids at Head Start Day Care

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, Child Development classes took a field trip to interact with kids at Head Start Day Care in Noblesville. Students were assigned groups and were told to read to children and plan activities for them. For many students, spending time with the kids, communicating with the kids, and becoming “teachers for the day” was an enjoyable experience.

“The best part was definitely interacting with the kids,” senior Sarah Leuther said. “I thought it was really fun and enjoyable reading to them and doing activities with them.”

Many of the groups had to set up a regular classroom lesson by doing activities with the lesson and helping out the kids. In doing so, many students learned the basics of interacting with children.

“I learned how to handle and communicate appropriately with young children,” Leuther said. “They have a lot of energy and it was interesting to cope with it all in just a few hours because I am not normally around three- to five-year-olds.”

Many students were excited to attend the field trip. Learning about children and about communicating with kids in real life made the experience all the more rewarding.

“I definitely wanted to go on this field trip,” Leuther said. “I enjoy working and being with younger kids.”
