World Connections Club hosts cultural holiday party

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, World Connections Club (WCC) held a cultural holiday party in the Annex Cafeteria. After students from Thailand spoke about holiday traditions from their country, students tasted catered Thai food. Club members also brought in desserts, some of which were traditional in their cultures.

“We wanted to expose everyone to the way different cultures celebrate this time of year,”  WCC vice president and senior Rachael Downham said. “All around the world, there are so many traditions that people here don’t know about.”

To enhance club members’ understanding of global holiday traditions, officers supplied Christmas pinatas so students could experience the traditional holiday game from Mexico. Some members also participated in the optional white elephant gift exchange. Downham received Japanese candy and origami figures.

“The gift exchange [was my favorite part] because I got to see all the different gifts people got each other,” Downham said. “It was all stuff from around the world, and it was pretty cool.”
