Students motivate others to vote for candidates at the polls

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, students attended the polls for the senators and mayors of Indiana to persuade citizens to vote for certain candidates. Many people, especially students who want to pursue a career involving government, went to work the polls. Senior Hannah Kraus, who is also a member of We the People, was one of these students who decided to volunteer at the polls.

“I think it’s extremely important to get involved in government,” Kraus said. “Anyone who wants to can do their part to share their opinions, no matter what their age. So I signed up as a way to practice my civic duty and get involved.”

The students were allowed to miss school and serve their community, as well as become involved in the election.

“I got to miss school to sit and talk to candidates and their constituents,” Kraus said. “It was an overall great experience.”

Kraus has not turned eighteen yet, which means she did not have the opportunity to vote. However, she still had an idea of who she wanted to vote for if she had the choice.

“I would have voted for John Weingardt [if I was 18 years old). He ran for Fishers city council for the territory I live in,” Kraus said. “Since I believe it is extremely important to vote, it was refreshing to see these people come and vote and talk to them about the process.”
