Indiana Religious Freedom Bill

Governor Mike Pence signed Indiana’s Religious Freedom Bill into law, on Thursday, March 26. The bill was put in place to protect the religious rights of private business owners.

“It’s a good idea but it’s not really going to change anything,” Sophomore Anika Powelson said. “and if anything, it’s going to make things worse because people could get offended because they couldn’t know if they were going against the person’s beliefs or not.”

Companies and celebrities took their sides with the bill. Josh Driver created an, “Open for Service”sticker that business could purchase and place in their windows saying that they serve everyone. Controversy even struck up with the Final Four being in town attracting more tourists. Though on April 2 Pence signed a revised version of the bill. To help clarify some things, such as not allowing someone to use this piece of legislation to discriminate against someone’s sexual orientation.
