HSE Young Life and Best Buddies come together for a good time

On February 18, HSE Young Life held its first Capernaum dance party after school. HSE Young Life and Best Buddies came together to give kids with intellectual and developmental disabilities their chance to shine by holding a dance party.

“This will be held once every month,” Ryan Ahlwardt, the director of Young Life in the Fishers area explained. “This is the first time we have ever done this.”

Since they could not have the main cafeteria until 4:00, they spent time in a fishbowl in the CCA  from 3:00 to 4:00 where they had a Bible study and played corn hole. Part of what they were doing was going around and sharing something cool about their day.

“Something cool about my day was being here.” Gracie Burke, a senior shared with the group.

When the dance party finally came around, the kids were really excited to dance.  The boys basketball team came and danced along. The boys had a dance off with Grace Burke and Brianna. The kids seemed to have a really fun time.  It is Young life for kids with special needs. Everybody participated in the dancing.

“This is Young Life for kids with special needs and developmental disabilities.” Mrs. Riley, a teacher said.

As the party came to an end, Ryan Ahlwardt thanked the boys basketball team for coming. “Thanks for coming out tonight. It means a lot that you would do this.”  The boys seemed to have a good time.
