Gunn surpassed HSE alum, Gary Harris, as HSE’s all time leading scorer while leading the Royals to victory against Carmel High School on Friday, Feb. 10. “It was a neat accomplishment,” Gunn said. “Just knowing all the talented guys who’ve been here and played and me being on top is a surreal feeling.” Photo by Caitlin Jones.

It’s been another successful year in basketball here at HSE. The team is heading into the playoffs with one of the best conference records, and senior Zach Gunn has just set the all-time record for scoring. He passed HSE legend and current NBA player Gary Harris to take the number one spot. Harris is the starting shooting guard for the Denver Nuggets.

“It’s really exciting just because there’s been so many talented guys to come through HSE and play here” Gunn said.

The Royals currently stand at 18-6, and are led by 7 seniors. Gunn feels strongly about this year’s squad.

“We’ve been playing really well” Gunn said. “This has been a really exciting season and we’re looking to make a run in the tournament.”

Becuase of Gunn’s success on the high school floor, he’s got high aspirations for his college basketball career.

“I’m looking to play basketball in college” Gunn said. “The choices are basically Ball State University and Indiana University.”

Gunn’s dedication to the team doesn’t go unnoticed, and his incredible play has been a big factor in the Royals’ success. So how will he respond to such a massive achievement?

“I just gotta keep working hard” Gunn said.

The Royals will begin sectional play tomorrow night. Let’s all wish them the best in their run towards a state title!
