Trump Addresses U.N. Following North Korean Threats

In recent news, North Korea’s leader Kim Jung Un has been threatening the United States of America by initiating various nuclear tests and firing multiple long-range missiles. On Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, North Korean ambassadors will have a front-row seat in the United Nations General Assembly. There, the meeting will touch base on the various exchanges of threats of military action between North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un and President of the United States Donald Trump.

Tensions between the United States and North Korea came into light decades ago following the Korean War, where the United States defended southern Korea. United States military troops obliterated North Korean infrastructure, pushing the nation back politically and economically. Eventually, the nation split in half, known today as North Korea and South Korea, with South Korea becoming a long-standing ally of the United States. Following the Korean war, North Korean schools began placing many of the country’s downfalls on the United States, creating a passionate hate towards the United States and a growing admiration for the nation’s leader among the people.

In light of the increasing tensions, Senate Democrats are pushing President Trump to appoint ambassadors to the region to attempt to solve the issue politically, as many politicians believe this is the only safe way to solve the problem.

“The solution can only be political,” United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said to Reuters. “Military action could cause devastation on a scale that would take generations to overcome.”

The concerned Democrats in the Senate wrote a letter to the president, pushing him even more to fill the positions needed to solve tensions between the United States and North Korea.

“As North Korea continues its illegal nuclear weapons program, commits blatant violations of international law, and makes threats to our country and allies, the confirmation of a U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Korea must be prioritized,” the letter said, according to CNN.

The concerned Senate believes appointing ambassadors to the region surrounding North Korea will, “affirmatively convey to our (South Korean) allies that our relationship is valued in the same manner as these nations.”

President Trump has held several meetings with nations such as China and South Korea regarding North Korea. The president claims to be considering various solutions to the problem, according to the President’s recent tweets on the social media outlet, Twitter.

“President Trump and President Moon committed to continuing to take steps to strengthen deterrence and defense capabilities and to maximize economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea,” the White House said in a statement regarding President Trump’s recent meeting with the South Korean leader.

Despite these recent meetings between the President and various world leaders, politicians and members of Congress are still concerned about the legitimacy of President Trump’s concerns with the issue, following various tweets from the president that appear to mock North Korean leader Kim Jung Un. It seems as though President Trump’s future actions regarding North Korea are unknown to most of Congress and the Senate, leading to growing interest in Washington, D.C. and the entire nation relating to the upcoming events that will take place in the United Nations General Assembly.
