EDD Class Begins Work on Competition Robot

HSE’s EDD class, also known as Engineering deign and development, has begun work on their competition robot. They must fully design a robot, including all the parts and pieces utilized to build it. The class is given some constraints on what materials they are able to work with and ultimately the robot must compete in challenges that the students are informed of on release day.

“This years challenge is cross fire,” Senior Rachel Simmonds said. “And we knew that ahead of time but we didn’t know all that the challenge encompassed until that release day.

The robot must save a mannequin from a fire, remove containment drums of hazardous chemicals, and put out the fire. The team has less than a month until the competition at Bowling Green State University which occurs Oct. 26.

“Our goal is always to get better,” Simmonds said. “And and we have done that successfully for the past couple years so hopefully we will do well.”
