Activities for a Stay-Cation This Thanksgiving Break

While preparing for Thanksgiving Break, some families are packed for their trip to visit family or be in the sun. Others are planning a stay-cation. The term stay-cation is used to describe a vacation within a person’s hometown with days full of activities. Most people know Ind. to be a very dull state with not much to do, but there are some unique and fun places to go if you look a little harder. Below are five ideas for a stay-cation.

The 55 annual Circle of Lights Tree lighting will be taking place on Nov. 24 from 6-8pm.  In this event, 4,784 colored lights are hung from the top of the monument to the base along with 26 giant toy soldiers and 26 giant peppermint sticks. The monument will be lit around 7:55 pm followed by a firework finale. If being out in the cold does not sound appealing, NBC will be airing the Circle of Lights Tree Lighting from 7-8pm.

On November 24 along with the Circle of Lights Tree lighting, Christmas at the Zoo will also be opening. The zoo will be decorated with lights and have holiday snacks and drinks sold throughout the park. In “Santa’s Village” buildings like Snowflakery, Santa’s study, Peppermint Twist, and the Mistletoe Kisses Gazebo will be open. In order to visit all that the zoo has to offer, they now offer extended hours on Friday and Saturdays from 5-10 pm.

The drumstick dash will be celebrating their 15 year anniversary this year. This is a 4.6 mile run on the morning of Thanksgiving in Broad Ripple.  To sign up and receive more information, visit: http://drumstickdash.org
