North Korea and South Korea Marching Under the Same Flag

Despite the obvious tensions between the two countries, North Korea and South Korea will be marching under the same flag at the Winter Olympics Feb. 9. The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un, has decided to send very few people to the Olympics that take place in Peyongchang, South Korea. He will send 230 cheerleaders, 140 musicians and 30 taekwondo athletes, according to CNN.

“[This is] The most dramatic gesture of reconciliation between these two countries in a decade,” NY Times said.

South Korea hopes that the two countries uniting under the same flag will help release some of the tension between them. North Korea continues to say that they will attack the United States and hopefully this will end after the Olympics.

North Korea and South Korea have also decided to have a joint women’s ice hockey team in the Olympics according to BBC.
North Korea has decided to participate in the Paralympics in March which is a big deal because they never participate in anything. North Korea posted a video about how they will be joining the Olympics.

“I feel like this will be good for releasing the built-up tension,” sophomore Sydney Eusey said. “Maybe North Korea will be able to let some of this stuff go.”

North Korea will be marching under the same flag at the Winter Olympics on Feb. 9 in Peyongchang, South Korea.

North Korea is also planning on having a military march the day before the Olympics. Kim Jong-Un wants a chance to remind everyone that they are militarily advanced and they could still launch their nuclear missiles at any time, according to CNN International. This military march will take place Feb. 8 in Pyongchang.
