Preparing for Riley Dance Marathon

Throughout the past week, students around HSE have taken part in a Riley Dance Marathon by having a convocation in the main gym, a spirit week and donating in red buckets carried by other students in the club. These activities are helping the club raise money to benefit patients at Riley Children’s Hospital in memory of a former student Matthew Springer. Along with the activities this week, the club has also participated in other fundraising events during the school year including; a silent auction and fashion show, Nelson’s Chicken sales, a car wash, no shave November and many others.

“We work all year to raise money for Riley but we are never going to be really big until we can get more of the student body involved,” said co-sponsor of the club Mrs. Trinkle. “I have an awesome leadership team but they can’t raise those big numbers by themselves.”

The biggest fundraiser of the year for the club is the Dance Marathon, which is taking place this Saturday in the main café from five to nine pm. In order to get into the dance students must buy a ticket for 15 dollars during lunches through the week or 20 dollars at the door on Saturday night. Along with ticket sales during lunches, Disney themed t-shirts are also being sold for 10 dollars. Students in the club have spent many hours planning and preparing for the dance in meetings and making posters that can be seen in the hallway.

“On the day of dance the leadership team meets here about three hours before and decorate and different people are scheduled to pick up different food,” Trinkle said. “We have absolutely a ton of food being donated this year so if for no other reason you can come to the dance for food.”
