The Road to Recovery

Take a look into Tylin Taylor’s recovery and his path back to being a varsity football player.

One moment, there’s music playing and wind coming through the windows. The next, there’s machines beeping and doctors trying to save your life.

Of all the athletes at HSE, not many of them can say they have gone through harder than Tylin Taylor. At just 12 years old, he was in a nearly fatal car accident that left his family wondering if he would ever walk again. Now, as a sophomore, Tylin Taylor is expected to start varsity for our football team next year.

“When I’m playing football, I have to do a lot of things other guys don’t,” Taylor said, “I try to take extra precaution, and try to limit the amount of hits that I take so I can avoid getting injured again.”

Tylin still suffers the effects of his accident to this day, making it harder for him to play at 100%. At practices, he finds himself limiting his hits and making sure that nothing he does will reinjure anything that is still not fully healed.

“I remember when he first got in his accident, he wasn’t doing so well” Landon Morris said, “but he’s improved so much since then. I’m actually proud of him and how hard he’s been working.”

All of Tylin’s hard work and dedication has made it possible for him to play football again. Without all of the extensive training sessions and nonstop effort, he wouldn’t be defying all of the expectations for him after the accident.

“Just working through all of the pain” Taylor said, “Just having faith that I’ll be able to come back, that’s really how I’ve been able to come back.”

No matter the situation, Tylin is always confident that he will prevail. After being through all of the pain and suffering, there isn’t anything he thinks he can’t do. Coming back from an accident that doctors said would leave him paralyzed to now playing as a varsity starter is truly phenominal.
