Being a high school senior comes with a lot of stress when talking about plans after graduation. Most go to college, some hop into the work force right away, but others like senior multi-sport athlete Luke Ferren chose a dissimilar career path, the military.

“I like challenging myself and working out,” Ferren said. “You get to travel a lot and there are a ton of opportunities in the military.”

Next year along with a few of his buddies, Luke plans on joining one of the toughest branches of the military, the marines.

“I know people who are marines and I know that they are the best,” Ferren said. “I just really wanted to be a part of that.”

Throughout his four years of high school, Luke has played a total of five different sports. Along with football and wrestling, Luke has also played rugby, lacrosse, and track. Each sport physically and mentally preparing him more for the marines.

“Definitely all of the sports I have played in high school have taught me a lot and have helped prepare me for the military next year,” Ferren said. “Especially character traits like discipline and dedication.”

When talking to Crae Kunkleman about Luke’s preparation for the marines, he had a few choice words to describe Ferren.

“Responsibility, passion, and perseverance,” Kunkleman said. “Whether it’s on the field or in the weight room, Luke is always a leader and that is what being a marine is all about.”

Senior wrestler Luke Ferren is no stranger to discipline. His future in the marine core depends on him being mentally and physically prepared and from hearing from Luke and his teammates, there is no doubt that he will take what he has learned through sports into the marines.
