Freshman All-Star

Playing on Two Teams and Maintaining 4.6 GPA

Every year, many freshman lacrosse players are called up to either JV or Varsity to come practice and play. In the spring of 2017 a freshman HSE lacrosse player named, Cannon Elsbury, was coming into lacrosse season and hoping to make the best out of it. Not only did he have the skills on the field, but he had the smarts off the field maintaining around a 4.6 GPA.

“My freshman year, I was hoping to maintain a very high GPA to start off high school” said Elsbury. “Not only did I want to keep the studies up, but I wanted to play both ways on the lacrosse team.”

Cannon always had a great work ethic towards lacrosse and school. He would always study hard and never be ok with anything lower than an A. On top of school work, he would always try to be a great teammate and work the hardest on the field.

“Cannon was one of those freshman that you knew was going to be a varsity starter very soon” teammate Tony Cassiere said. “As soon as he got into the program he had a great attitude and was one of the hardest working guys.”

Cannon was able to play both ways his freshman year but he had to maintain all of varsity and games practices along with Freshman games and practices. This would pack his schedule to double the lacrosse in one week.

“I was always busy, but it never got to be too much because I loved the game so much” Elsbury said. “Learning to work hard in school and in lacrosse helped me set high standards for myself.”

Elsbury has worked very hard since freshman year and is now a 3rd year returning varsity player going into his junior season. He has been able to maintain the grades and keep a wonderful work ethic. Last year Elsbury and the Royals were able to capture their fist ever State Championship and they are looking to go back-to-back this year. Story by Gavin Thomas
