Progression

When talking about high school athletes getting scholarships to play their sport of choice at the next level in college, there is one word that is essential in making it to the next level of play: progress. On top of maintaining good grades, to make it to the next level, athletes need to be constantly working to improve their game from the moment they put a high school jersey on. Senior basketball player Aaron Etherington is a prime example of how constant progression in sports can take you to big places.

“I’m going to the University of Toledo to play basketball and study business,” Etherington said. “I really like the campus and really enjoyed being around the team and the coaching staff, so I knew it was the best fit for me.”

Aaron has a full ride scholarship to the University of Toledo and is excited to move to Ohio next fall to play at the next level.

“I’m probably most excited to play in the MAC tournament and hopefully and hopefully in the NCAA tournament one day,” Etherington said. “From talking to my brothers who both played basketball in college, it is completely different from high school ball.”

But working hard is not a new concept for Etherington. He has always worked to be the best no matter the sport.

“I’ve known him for about 8 or 9 years, and we grew up playing football and baseball together in about 3rd grade,” Jack Cooley, life-long friend and Etherington’s former teammate said. “I remember when he was little and he has always had that work ethic to be able to make himself excel on the court and if he wants something he goes out and gets it, there is no stopping him.”

There is no doubt that Etherington is going to succeed at the next level of play. He has always had the same mindset of constantly improving no matter what he does. This skill will help him be a leader at the University of Toledo and in life.
