Balancing It All

When talking about high school students, the use of “time management” is essential for a successful high school career. On top of dealing with the stress that comes along with keeping up with academics, students often are involved in an extra-curricular activity such as playing a sport or having a part-time job. But senior lacrosse state-champion Cam Smith does it all.

“Balancing school work and lacrosse is kind of hard,” Smith said. “I work until 5 and the ice class really helps because I leave school at 11:30 so I get to work from 11:30 to 5:00 to get my hours and money for college. And then going to practice until 7:30. After that I do my homework until about 9:00.”

Cam works at a popular nearby sporting goods store called Play It Again Sports, helping future lacrosse players find the perfect gear.

“I’m a sales rep and it is a pretty fun job,” Smith said. “I get to work with all of my friends and we have a pretty good time, all the time.”

Cam is no regular lacrosse player. Starting for the team in his junior season, Smith was an essential part of the offense and in bringing home Hamilton Southeasters first lacrosse state championship. Coming into his senior season and being a big part of the team, pressure is a normal emotion for most athletes, but not Cam.

“There’s just not a lot of pressure,” Smith said. “It’s just confidence.”

Along with being an all-star, Cam is also a leader. When asking Tanner Williams, a fellow teammate of Cams, Tanner had a few choice words to describe him.

“From the moment I stepped on the field with my brother Cam this year, I realized he has shown four strong qualities,” Williams said. “Commitment, confidence, teamwork, and trust.”

Senior lacrosse player Cam Smith is no stranger to hard work. His days consist of constantly moving and working towards success. Whether it be in the classroom, at work, or on the field, Cam is a leader. This Spring, Cam and his teammates hope to clench a second state championship for the Royals, working hard in the off-season to prepare. Story by Dylan Wadsworth
