Running into a New Challenge

One Chapter Ends, While a New One Begins

Sometimes it didn’t always seem like senior Grant Wilson would become the devoted Xavier Cross-Country commit he is today. Both of his parents ran in high school, which resulted in his parents signing him up for races when he was very young.

“At first I was really reluctant, but then I began to enjoy it,” said Wilson.

Wilson thrived in his family’s sport. Before he knew it, he was a four-year varsity runner at Hamilton Southeastern. He said that starting varsity helped him a lot in his career so he could get early experience.

“Grant has continued to mature as a runner, learning better when to push himself and when to back off to recover and avoid injury.” Coach Joe Golden said. “One important aspect of improving is endurance in a long period of uninterrupted training, and Grant has been able to accomplish this during his junior and senior year, resulting in some outstanding performances.”

His success with running cross-country in high school landed him a spot on the University of Xavier team. Now that Wilson has finished his high school cross country career, he will continue his career next fall at the Cincinnati based school.

“I’m excited that I will be able to experience new courses, new people, get to run a new distance, and I think it will be a great time,” Wilson said.

“Grant will bring a strong team first attitude to the Xavier program.” Coach Golden said. “Grant has helped HSE Distance develop into a group that has the team in mind first and foremost.”

Wilson has been an incredible runner and leader for the Hamilton Southeastern Royals through the past four years. He will be running into a new challenge when he starts his college career at Xavier, but he will be ready.
