Chasing the Next Level

Chelsea Morrow’s Road to College Golf

The sun rose on the day of the State Championship. On a brisk fall morning hundreds of golfers were out to make a name for themselves and their team at Prairie View Golf Club. Chelsea Morrow was part of the field who had worked hard to get to this point. It was the most crucial time in Morrow’s career as she was right in the thick of the recruiting process. The pressure was on.

Chelsea Morrow has been playing golf since she was 7 years old. She had competed as a multi-sport athlete through junior high before ultimately deciding to focus on golf in high school. Morrow had her mind set on playing college golf. Her experience and talent put lots of pressure on her to come through with that very goal and succeed, because it was an expectation.

“In the beginning it was nerve racking knowing that there are coaches around”, Morrow said. “But over time you get used to seeing coaches.”

Morrow certainly felt pressure to succeed but grew immune to it. Once she got comfortable with the recruiting process, she began to have multiple options and focus in on what she wanted from a school.

“The recruiting process was complicated”, Morrow said. “I wanted to find a school that fit me not only for golf, but for education and also close to home.”

Morrow found just that in Indiana State where she will be attending next year to play golf. She has not only achieved her goal of playing college golf at a place she fits, but has also left behind an example to her fellow teammates who may want to follow in her footsteps. Teammate Maggie Watson weighed in.

“Chelsea is completely dedicated and basically embodies hard work paying off”, Watson said. “She is very inclusive and has shown the team what it takes to be successful in golf.”

Morrow has done what it takes to become a college golfer. She finished off her successful high school career this past season and will now spend the spring and summer months preparing herself to write the next chapter starting next fall at Indiana State. Story by Sam Smith.
