Hamilton Southeastern FFA: Donkey Basketball

Remington Fletcher

The Hamilton Southeastern FFA chapter is hosting the annual Donkey Basketball event on Saturday Jan. 25. Tip off is at 6 pm in the HSE Varsity Gym.

What is Donkey Basketball?

Donkey Basketball is a 4 on 4 basketball game with each participant getting their own donkey to ride during the game. Players must shoot, steal, block passes and shots while on a donkey. Teams may substitute players or trade donkeys at any time.

This year, there will be 4 preliminary games that are each 10 minutes in length. At the end of the night, there will be a 15 minute long championship game between the two teams who scored the most points in the preliminary round.

Why should I attend Donkey Basketball?

This event is beyond just a regular FFA fundraiser. All proceeds made from Donkey Basketball go to the Carrie Colglazier Scholarship Award. This is a scholarship created in honor of Carrie who graduated from HSE in 2002 and had her life tragically cut short by a drunk driver on June 6, 2003.

Also, at half time, there will be FREE Donkey Rides available for children ages 12 & under given by FFA members! There will be a free throw contest, as well, with the winner receiving a 2 liter of soda by shooting a free throw successfully while sitting on a donkey.

Lastly, HSE FFA’s Famous Grilled Pork Burgers will be for sale at the concessions!

Who is apart of the teams?

There will be 8 teams including the following: Summers, Fishers Junior High, Sagamore, HSE, Fishers, Reynolds, IMI and Don Hinds Ford. A mixture of students from the listed schools and members from the companies above will be there along with student FFA members and other spectators.

All students, teachers and faculty members are encouraged to attend and bring their families for a night filled with fun and friendly competition in memory of Carrie Colglazier.
