Basketball Doubleheader Against Westfield

The HSE Royals basketball teams took to the road and headed to Westfield High School to compete in a doubleheader Friday, Jan. 17. Friday was also Westfield’s Pink Night, a night to honor those who have fought through or are continuing to fight against breast cancer. The girls took the first win of the night with an ending score of 42 – 35. The boys team quickly followed with another win of 65 – 45. Overall, it was a night of many accomplishments for the Royals.

Both the boys and girls team took victory over the Shamrocks, but it wasn’t the Royals’ only highlight of the night. HSE sophomore Lydia Self gave a team member’s insight on the Pink Night and the cause it supported. “Obviously the game on Friday was a great conference win for both the boys and the girls teams,” Self said. “But when you put it into perspective of what the people honored that night have gone through or are going through, it almost makes it meaningless. Our fatigue or struggles in a basketball game are nothing compared to what those fighters and survivors are going through. That’s why it made it such a special night for every person in the gym”.
