HSE Hockey In the State Tournament

Both HSE Hockey A and B teams played in their respected State Championship games on March 7th. The HSE B team advanced to the 1A State Championship after going 2-1 in the playdown games in Fort Wayne during the weekend of February 28th-March 1st. The B team won their first game against South Stars White 5-2 but then lost to Lake Central White 3-1, who they would later meet in the championship. After their loss, they were forced to play in a win or go home game to advance to the championship. The game ended 4-1, with HSE becoming victorious over Penn JV. The next weekend, the B team would lose a tough game to Lake Central White 3-2 for the championship. The B team ended their season advancing to the state championship which no other HSE B team has done. The A team would sweep their playdown games in South Bend, going 3-0. In their first game, the A team beat Lakeshore St. Joe 3-2 in a game that went down to the wire. The next day they would be the first seeded Penn 3-1 to advance for a chance the play in the championship. On Sunday, the A team would take down their in-conference rival Zionsville 3-1 to advance to the state championship. The championship was played against St. Joe, were there was little scoring. There were no goals through 47 minutes of play, out of 51. With four minutes left the A team snuck the puck passed the St. Joe goalie to go up 1-0. They never looked back and ended triumphant in a 1-0 nail-biter. Both teams had extremely successful season and represented the HSE name well.
