Royal Return

Vivianna Esqueda

After several months in quarantine and online classes, the Royals are finally making a return to in-person class. Superintendent Bourff has sent out new information regarding how school will adjust to Phase 2 which allows 50 percent of students to return to school and the other 50 percent will stay virtual throughout the week. Dr. Bourff has also released new information regarding the new bell schedule that will begin on Sept. 17.

As students return to the building, there will be much to get used to. School will now begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. Students who attend school on-site will be required to wear masks over their nose and mouth when on the bus, entering and exiting school buildings, in the health clinic, during passing periods, in the restroom, and in the classroom. They will also be screened for a high temperature or any COVID-19 symptoms. The schedule has now been changed to a block schedule which will consist of 85 minute classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Mondays and Thursdays students will attend their first, second, third and fourth period classes. Tuesdays and Fridays will be for fifth period, SEEL, sixth period, seventh period, and Tiered Interventions. Wednesdays will be when students will go to their classes consecutively for 45 minutes. The first half of the week will be the Red Days which includes students who’s last names begin from A-K and the second half will be Blue Days for students who’s last names begin from L-Z.  Students returning to school on-site must follow the district guidelines to ensure a safe experience for all students and staff.

Many students, however, will continue with virtual classes until the end of the semester. Virtual students will continue to log onto their Zoom meetings at the same time as the in-person students. Students who chose to stay completely virtual this semester also have the option to change their status and attend school if their circumstances change. If a student is interested in changing their status, contact the school administrator to determine the appropriate date to change learning models.

The district operation plan is subject to change at any time. For more information, visit the HSE District website.
