Biden Names All Female Senior Communications Team

The year of 2020 has been full of changes and surprises, following with this theme President-elect Joe Biden has named an all-female senior communications team. This is a history making decision, with many of the women previously serving in the Obama administration.

From the beginning, Biden expressed the importance of women being in high up roles within his administration with such example being his vice president-elect Kamala Harris becoming the first ever female vice president.

The seven women named on Biden’s senior communication team are Kate Bedingfield, Jen Psaki, Karine Jean-Pierre, Ashley Etienne, Symone Sanders, Pili Tobar, and Elizabeth Alexander. Many of these women are people of color as well as mothers of young children. They each have varied life experiences and education.

Biden believes that each of these individuals will bring unique perspectives to their work and is looking forward to the commitment they will present.

“Communicating directly and truthfully to the American people is one of the most important duties of a President, and this team will be entrusted with the tremendous responsibility of connecting the American people to the White House,” Biden said. “These qualified, experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to building this country back better.”

Harris sees that this new elected communications team will reflect the best of the nation despite the challenges the country is facing.

“Our country is facing unprecedented challenges- from the coronavirus pandemic to the economic crisis, to the climate crisis, and a long-overdue reckoning over racial injustice,” Harris said. “To overcome these challenges, we need to communicate clearly, honestly, and transparently with the American people, and this experienced, talented, and barrier-shattering team will help us do that. These communications professional express our commitment to building a White House that reflects the very best of our nation.”

Also, Biden has named Avril Haines as his director of national intelligence which will be be the first time a woman will be serving in this role.

Harris is set to soon nominate Janet Yellen as the first female treasury secretary as well.

Within the next couple weeks Biden is expected to name more White House staffers and Cabinet appointments.
