School Travel Guidelines Regarding Upcoming Spring Break

Ellie Johnson

With spring break fast approaching, and only two weeks of school, it is important that students be aware of the guidelines surrounding their spring break travels. Obviously, the Covid-19 pandemic has restricted travel for a large chunk of the past year, but as case numbers decline and vaccinations are expanding, travel, even internationally, seems much more realistic.

The school, following the lead of the CDC, has not put in place any restrictions for domestic travel, that is, travel within the United States. However, there are multiple recommendations provided for students or families choosing to travel out of the country for break. Although international travel may be popular in past years, due to increasing restrictions and regulations, the popularity has declined.

Amy Hanna, Director of Health Services for HSE Schools issued a statement providing the recommendations for students’ safe return to the United States as well as our school. In this statement, she addresses self-quarantine guidelines as well as testing guidelines upon return. Her full announcement including the guidelines can be found at https://hhs.hseschools.org/happenings/news/spring-break-travel-guidelines .

Although these guidelines do not apply to all students, or even a majority, for those that they impact, they do greatly. Especially for seniors planning to go on an international “Senior Spring Break Trip”, these regulations may be very restricting. It is important to be aware and follow these rules however, so that we may continue to decrease numbers and come closer to ridding our country of this pandemic.
