French Journalist Abducted

A French journalist who disappeared in Mali last month, uploads video of him pleading for help.

Olivier Dubois, a French journalist, recorded a 21-second video clip of him explaining that he was kidnapped in Gao, Mali, on April 8th, 2021. This video clip was uploaded on Wednesday, May 5th, 2021. “I’m speaking to my family, my friends, and the French authorities for them to do everything in their power to free me,” said Dubois. In the video, you can see him sitting barefoot in what looks to be a tent. He is believed to be a hostage by an Islamist group. Olivier Dubois is a journalist based in Mali, he reports for several French media outlets, such as the magazine “Le Point” and the newspaper “Libération.”  French authorities are extremely concerned for Dubois’ safety and are thoroughly investigating his disappearance. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) have pushed for actions to be made to find Dubois.
