SSN: College Football Midseason Review

Davis Gerig

We are six weeks into the college football season, and some teams have fallen short of expectations while others have exceeded them. One team that has exceeded expectations is the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes came into the season as the number 18 team in the AP poll, they have moved up to the number two spot beating teams like Indiana, Penn State, and Iowa State. They will look to continue their undefeated season as they take on Purdue today.

Another team that has played better than expected is not a power 5 school, that would be the Cincinnati Bearcats. They have moved from number 8 to number 3 and have beat a powerhouse football team in Notre Dame. The two Michigan schools are both in the top ten after disappointing seasons last year. Michigan state is at number 10 as they take on Indiana, and Michigan is at number eight.

The first team that comes to mind to have a worse than expected season is the Indiana Hoosiers. Last season, the Hoosiers went 6-2. This season they start the year 2-3 losing to Penn State, Iowa, and Cincinnati by a combined score of 66 points.

The junior quarterback looked to be promising last year before tearing his ACL. Michael Penix Jr Came back this season and has looked below average has he has only thrown 4 touchdowns to 7 interceptions, with just under 1000 yards passing. The rest of the college football season is going to be interesting and fun to watch.
