SSN Athlete Feature: Reese Hissong

Senior Reese Hissong and her affect as a senior leader during yet another successful golf season.

As the Lady Royals golf season comes to an end, their senior-dominated team is on par for a strong final run for the state title. The team has had an exceptional season, with the girls working hard throughout the balmy late summer months. The royals have battled some tough opponents during their invitational tournaments during the regular season, including Noblesville, Layfette, Westfield, and more. The girls also challenged a tough Carmel team, yet fought hard and pulled out a close win, 160 to 162.

The lady royals have had a quick, yet dominating season, allowing for a positive outlook on the upcoming sectional played on September 19th, 2022. This senior-dominated organization is led by a strong, resilient group of ladies, creating an overall positive team environment. Senior Reese Hissong has been a part of the team since her Freshman year and has had some immense achievements during her journey, including shooting an impressive par 36 to set the tone for the post-season matchups.

Being a strong leader on such a successful team is one of the many qualities that Hissong possesses. She has proven her leadership through her positivity, determination, and integrity. She has worked hard this season and competed alongside some of her best friends. “This season has been the best so far,” Hissong said. “My fellow seniors and I have worked so hard the past three years and it is great to see that hard work pay off.”

Hissong has looked up to many of the HSE alumni as well, including Grace Dubec, who became a huge role model during Hissong’s career. This influential initiative portrayed through Reese has also affected her underclassmen teammates as well. Junior Ella Bui has played alongside Hissong for the majority of her career and has succeeded under her encouragement. “The seniors are always the ones to hype us up before matches and be there for us if a round goes bad,” Bui said. “Without them, my experience would be totally different, and I definitely wouldn’t enjoy the season as much.”

This idea of compelling leadership has been portrayed during the regular season and makes for a confident outlook on the upcoming sectional matches and beyond. The royals battle one of their toughest rivals in the upcoming days, Noblesville, on their home course. “It has been so fun to watch my team compete in sectionals today,” Hissong said. “I love cheering my teammates on and doing anything I can to uplift their spirits and help them in any way I can.”

Reese Hissong is an overall fantastic athlete and a terrific leader. She is highly valued by her teammates, coaches, and friends, and has been a great influence on the team. Hissong will be the first alternate to compete in the upcoming sectional competition and will forever be a name to remember. Throughout her years of golf experience, Hissong has left an astonishing impact of the program as a whole.
