HSE Finals Week

Finals Week Exam Schedule, Tutoring, Exam Times

Avery Orinion

Finals week is arriving, and HSE teachers and administrators are preparing to support students during finals week with a simple schedule and tutoring opportunities.

Final exams begin Tuesday, Dec. 13, with Dec. 12 being a regular 5-8 day.

The next four days consists of teacher office hours, lunches and two periods of final exams. Tuesday, Dec. 13 through Thursday, Dec. 15 matches the same schedule. Friday only holds one final exam period, changing the time schedule for that day.

Teacher office hours last from 8:30 am to 10:40 am Tuesday through Thursday, and lunch for students is 10:10 am to 11:10 am. Teachers are scheduled for lunch from 10:40 am to 11:10 am. The first exam taking place each day begins at 11:20 am and ends at 1:05 pm. The next exam starts at 1:15 pm, ending at 3:00 pm. Each exam is scheduled for 105 minutes, with a 10 minute passing period in between the two exams.

The schedule for Friday, Dec. 16 holds teacher office hours from 8:30 am until 11:15 am. The student lunch is open from 10:50 am until 11:50 am, while teacher lunch begins at 11:15 am and ends at 11:50 am. One final exam is held on Friday from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm. This exam remains 105 minutes, and the passing periods are still 10 minutes on this day.

“This schedule benefits students as students can advocate for own needs in the morning as they have the opportunity to see teachers based upon their individual academic needs,” Vice Principal Paige Vinson said. “Additionally, by testing a little later in the day, if there is inclement weather (a real possibility in Indiana!) there is less likelihood that the testing schedule will be affected.”

During the 8:30 am to 10:40 am teacher office hours, students can receive help from teachers or they can attend tutoring from National Honor Society (NHS) members. NHS is holding a tutoring party for their members and surprise teachers to provide help for students struggling or looking for extra help during finals week. The tutoring party is 8:30 am to 10:00 am in café D. This tutoring help will only be available from Dec. 13 to Dec. 15. There will be no tutoring offerings from National Honor Society on Friday, Dec. 16.

NHS has provided a link for sign ups in order to be paired with a tutor who can help with a specific subject here.

“Students are benefitting by being able to get one last push of help in their subjects they may have questions in or may just be struggling in. Sometimes a voice different than others [they] have heard can be very beneficial in understanding,” NHS coordinator and sponsor Courtney Lawhead said. “It shows that other students from HSE careabout [students] as a person. It shows the ability for students to be able to show care and concern for their fellow Royals.”
