Student Media & Publications -Policies & Information

HSE News Policy:

HSE News / HSE Student Media & Publications is a public forum, in which the staff of students make the decisions concerning content. HSE News is the umbrella term used for the five different Student Media staffs at Hamilton Southeastern High School: Orb (newsmagazine), Sceptre (yearbook), HSETV (student news broadcasting), Southeastern Sports Network (student sports broadcasting) and hsenews.com (online).

The Orb is produced by students of the Converged Newsroom class who earn credit for their work. The printing is done by the AIM Media Indiana Printing in Greenfield, Indiana. The Sceptre is produced by students of the Converged Newsroom class who earn credit for their work. Herff Jones serves as the publishing company. HSETV is the television and video production entity of student media and is produced by students in the Broadcast Journalism 1-3 and Mass Media 1-2 classes, respectively. SSN is the Sports Broadcasting 1-3 courses and is the entity of student media that houses live broadcast streams, daily sports news updates, the podcast/vodcast, as well as social media and marketing. Student Media & Publications staff members have garnered knowledge of journalism, media, photography, reporting, law and ethics, as well as other similar topics of instruction, through prerequisite classes of Journalism, Photojournalism or Mass Media. The website hsenews.com is maintained and updated by students in all student publications and media courses, as well as the faculty advisers.

Opinions in columns and letters are not necessarily those of the staff, nor should any opinion expressed in a public forum be construed as the opinion or policy of the administration, useless so attributed. HSE News are public forums of student expression, and students make all content decisions, and opinions expressed do not represent those of HSE Schools or the Board of School Trustees.

Unsigned staff editorials express the view of the majority of the student editorial board.

Letters to the editor are welcomed and will be published if signed and as space allows. The Student Media & Publication staffs reserves the right to edit letters for purposes of correct grammar, clarity, space and libelous content. Signed letters may be submitted to B117, B127 or B130 or submitted directly to an adviser at dyoung@hse.k12.in.us or jklobusnik@hse.k12.in.us.

The Student Media & Publication staffs are a member of the Indiana High School Press Association, Columbia Press Association, National Scholastic Press Association and the Student Press Law Center.
