Freshman Boys Basketball Recap

The Hamilton southeastern Freshmen boys’ basketball team finished with a record of 21-1 winning the Hamilton County championship against Fishers 62-43 and then winning the Hoosier Crossroads Conference on February 18th.

Being freshmen, these boys had a lot to learn from coaches and from the upperclassmen. Freshman guard Jaxson Wanza said “The upperclassmen showed me what to do and how to act. People like Michael Griffith really helped guide me in the right direction and showed me how to be a better person and player”. The upperclassmen are the ones who need to teach the incoming players before they leave so that the underclassmen can then teach the next group after them to keep the teams’ chemistry and to help them grow.

Since this is their first year, they still have three years left to play high school basketball but none of them will be like this one. Freshman Center Landon Osswald said, “What I’m going to miss the most from this season is probably the joy of being with my teammates and hanging out with them almost every day and getting to practice every day”. Osswald explains the chemistry that they have as a team that will continue to grow as the years go on.

These boys made so many good memories this season, but Wanza says his favorite part of the season was “Winning both Conference Championships and holding up the trophy with a good record”. Osswald also says his favorite part of the season was “Winning the County and Conference Tournaments”. They said that this showed all their hard work and effort into the season starting way back in the summer all the way up until that final game where they got the reward of holding up the trophy that they worked so hard for all season long.
