Best Buddies Celebrates Prom

Ellie Johnson

Around two weeks ago the Best Buddies club hosted a prom for its members. This tradition faced some difficulties because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but it was important to the club to continue even through the many different challenges of the pandemic.

Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization that aims to create opportunities for friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The club is headed by sponsors Morgan Porter and Barb Onufrock.

The event was hosted in the CCA Cafeteria of the high school Friday, April 16th. The event featured dancing, games, and food for its members.

The pair of senior Mallory Myers and Ben Rewers were matched as buddies earlier this year. They have been participating in different events together throughout the year. For the Best Buddies prom, Myers asked Rewers to go as her date. Rewers, being the sweetheart he is, of course said yes. He was ecstatic to attend the event with Myers.

The pair can continue to be found participating in multiple events together. You can find them attending many different Best Buddies events, as well as competing on the Unified Track team. Their unique friendship is a special product of this club.
