The Election in Review

There is no other nationwide casting of votes that is more covered and reported on than the United States presidential election. The rivaling campaigns which wage wars of words continue for months on end, tiring the citizens. By election day, almost every voter has determined who they would like to see occupy the highest chair in the country. Hostility is built up over time until a boiling point is reached. This spills over into a flurry of slanderous remarks, exposed scandals, and the harshest words that one could muster. No event divides the population more than the election.

Regardless of all personal opinions, Donald J. Trump has been elected as the next President of the United States. He defeated Hillary Clinton with a total of 290 Electoral College votes as opposed to her 228. This came as a surprise to many due to numerous swing states that were previously thought to favor Clinton, had voted in support of Trump. Pollsters and media outlets were in as much disbelief as the general populace. Many had predicted a Hillary Clinton victory by as much as 100 Electoral College votes. Despite Clinton reaching over 200,000 more popular votes than the competition, she could not edge Trump out in the ultimate deciding factor.

Almost as if to be expected, many protests have begun to sprout up all over the United States. A large number of these are in spite of the results, hoping to change the results in any way they can. While others are protesting the actions of Donald Trump which many view as “despicable.” An election as divisive as this one had been bound for protest regardless of the results. Many are threatening to move everything they have to other countries in their own form of protest. Protests or not, the 45th President of the United States has been decided for the next four years. Time will ultimately tell as to how successful this result is.
