Senior Emily Wills, an outstanding Lady Royals tennis player, not only demonstrates strong dedication but also embodies the resilience of perseverance. Her career at HSE has been life-changing, marked by memorable experiences and personal growth. Throughout her years as a Lady Royal athlete, Emily’s favorite aspect has been the relationships she has created within the team.

Reflecting on her journey, “all of the girls were so welcoming and easy to build relationships with.” She also stated that “This has not only made practices enjoyable but has also strengthened the team’s bond during matches, creating a supportive and uplifting environment.”

Wills has had many coaches in the past but particularly Coach Gernert and Coach Schwoeppe, have helped her make the most development as a player. “They always push me to be the best player I can be and provide guidance on how I can improve my skills,”. Every athlete must face a challenge in their career and hers is “staying consistent during matches while still working on improving during practice.” Wills’ coaches have helped her to believe it is easy to stay safe but still important to challenge yourself to play better.

While Wills does not plan to pursue tennis at the college level, she intends to continue playing the sport in her free time. “I enjoy being active and playing with friends,” she shares. Wills shares her “genuine love for tennis as both a sport and a source of enjoyment.”

Wills would not have been able to succeed as well if it were not for the supportive father she has. “My biggest role model is my dad because he’s always been there supportive and pushes me to be the best player I can, he is always willing to go hitting with me, as well as attending my matches to watch me play.”

Looking ahead, Wills is excited about the prospects of her future beyond high school tennis. She is grateful for the experiences, friendships, and lessons learned during her time as a Lady Royals athlete, recognizing the impact it has had on her personal and athletic growth. And her goal for this season is to become a better player while still having fun and focus on improving skills and being a supportive teammate.
