A Guide to HSE Football Games

Every year from September until mid November, the Hamilton Southeastern Football team is in season. Students are encouraged to attend the games and cheer for the football players. This year the class of 2021 may now sit in the student section as freshman in high school. There are some things the students need to consider before they attend the games.

The HSE school song is highly recommended for students to learn before the game. The words to the song may be found on page 6 of any student planner sold by the bookstore. Singing this song at the games is tradition as well as it shows school pride.  The Blue Crew is a group of students who attend the games to organize and lead the cheers as well as enhance school spirit. Showing good sportsmanship during the game and cheers contributes to the positive energy that should be brought to every single game.

“My advice for the freshman would have to be to come and support at every football game” senior Darian Ghaffari said. “They [Freshman] are a big part of school spirit and we really need them behind us and cheering to succeed as a whole.”

Another topic for students to consider is their attire for the games. Every game has a theme that has been posted on the HSE Blue Crew twitter account. Although there are bleachers, most students stand on them and jump up and down. Any facial or body paint must be applied before coming to the games. Paint bottles are banned inside the gates.

Last but not least, safety is a big priority at the games. To stay safe it is a good idea to stick with your group of friends during the game. This is especially important when students go to the restroom or concession stand during the game, as it may be hard to find their friends when they come back. Bringing a friend in these kinds of situations can be very helpful.  Actions that are considered unsafe include pushing, fighting, climbing on the bleachers and anything else that can cause a threat to others or themselves.

When the safety rules are followed and good sportsmanship is shown to the opposing team, the games are a fun way to get involved and show school pride.
