Running for a reason

Senior Hannah Bohm talks about her experiences in Unified Track and Best Buddies

When you walk out to Unified track practice, chances are you’ll see around 20 people huddled up, laughing and smiling. One of the brightest smiles in the group is almost always the girl with the long blonde hair. Hannah Bohm has been on the Unified Track team for three years now. Her main events she competes in is shot put, but occasionally fills in for running events.

“Unified Track is so much fun,” Bohm says. “I love being able to go out with all of my fellow peers and students and have a good time competing against other teams. It’s something I always look forward to at the end of the year and I’m really gonna miss it when I head to Purdue in the fall.”

When Hannah isn’t competing in Unified track, chances are she’s hanging out with her pal Ben Rewers. Hannah and Ben have been friends for a year, and both compete in Unified Track together. Hannah is in Best Buddies and spends time with Ben both in and outside of school with activities such as grabbing ice cream at Handel’s or Ben’s favorite- a strawberry banana smoothie at Smoothie King in downtown fishers.

“Hannah is one of our hardest workers on the team. Her presence on the team is loved and she gets along with everyone she meets,” Unified Track coach Marsha Lee says. “We’re so glad she’s apart of the team.”

Hannah looks forward to continuing the relationships she’s created in both Best Buddies and Unified Track while at Purdue, and plans to visit all the friends she’s made through the years whenever she has the chance.
