HSE Girls Swimming and Diving Season Recap

With doubts of the swimming season, as well as the rest of the winter sports happening due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Girls swimming and diving has certainly outdone expectations. In the first meet of the season HSE edged out Noblesville 116 to 67. The meet was different to others as fan attendance was limited and many other precautions were taken because of the pandemic. HSE however, did very well adapting to the start of a season like no other. The second meet was against Avon High School, the Royals stood their ground at home in their season home opener with a 135-50 win. The Royals then travelled to Franklin Central to face off against the Flashes. They earned the top scoring spots in 11 out of 14 events and dominated the meet winning 143 to 43. The Royals also took the top two spots in each relay, a big factor in their win, and showing the depth that they have. At this point, the Royals are dominating! Three wins, and not by a slim margin either! Next up the Royals faced off against Brownsburg high school, where not only they had plenty of momentum going into this meet, The Royals also celebrated the swimmers and divers that were graduating in 2021! With that the Royals also grabbed yet another victory winning 137 to 49, what a meet! Next, the Royals headed to Westfield to take on the Shamrocks and ended up getting the win, they won by a great margin of 138-48 making them now 5-0 on the season. In the following competition the Splash and Clash meet HSE came in 2nd fighting until the end getting a total of 662 points and falling to Homestead High School who scored 703 points in the competition. HSE then took a loss against Carmel and they’re rival school, Fishers High School. They then headed to North Central and got a win by an impressive margin of 121-65. They then faced off against the Eagles in Zionsville where they edged out the win with a score of 95-88. After that, came the Reserve Championships where the girls edged out the win by three points in a close competition with HSE finishing in 1st and Zionsville finishing in 2nd. After that was the time everyone’s been waiting for, sectionals. The girls finished second in a hard fought sectional meet battle versus Fishers High School. They fought very hard however, and set many school records ending their great season. Coach Andy Pedersen says “Our girls effort was as strong as any I have seen in my 30 years of coaching and this team is hungry to improve from a technical standpoint so the future is very bright.“ The Royals future for swimming and diving is definitely bright as Pedersen said, they got many big wins and worked very hard in a season certainly like no other. Unfortunately their season ended in a sectional loss but the Royals fought to the end and made every meet a close battle.
